Women Heads of Philly to Cook Dinner for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

On Sunday October 3, nearly every female chef you know in Philly will come together to support an admirable cause: raising funds for domestic violence survivors through a cocktail party and sit-down dinner at Cherry Street Pier. It will be co-hosted by award-winning writer and pastry chef James Beard Lisa Donovan in connection with her memoir, Our Lady of Perpetual Hunger, in which she reflects on her experience as an abuse survivor.

Organized by the founders of the Sisterly Love Food Fair, the Sisterly Love Sunday Supper has an impressive list of attendees: Ana Caballero from Proyecto Tamal, Melissa McGrath from Sweet Amalia Oysters, Nok Suntaranon from Kalaya, Tova DuPlessis from Essen Bakery, Jennifer Zavala from Juana Tamale, Stephanie Willis of Everybody Eats, Ellen Yin of Fork and the Wonton Project, Amanda Shulman of Her Place, and many more. The evening will benefit Women Against Abuse, a nonprofit organization that provides resources to survivors of domestic violence. For now, the $ 300 dinner tickets are sold out, but the $ 150 pre-dinner aperitif tickets are still available. Tickets can be purchased here.

Stina BYO to host monthly charity dinner with rotating guest chefs

Speaking of chefs doing good things for the world, Stina BYOB recently announced a monthly guest chef series where chefs will cook at the Snyder Avenue pizzeria to raise funds for a different nonprofit each month. The September dinner is hosted by Chef Phila Lorn from Terrain, and 20 percent of the proceeds go to Cambodian American Girls Empowering. Chef Joncarl Lachman de Noord will cook in October and chef David Ansill in November, to support causes of their choice. Reservations for Special Guest Chef’s Dinners – the first of which is September 30 – can be made through Resy.

Chef Eli Kulp, one of the founding chefs of Fork and High Street Philly, has been hosting his CHEF radio podcast for over a year now, but recently added a new podcast to his roster. Delicious City focuses on restaurant and food news in Philly – like an “audio food blog,” Kulp says – and will appear every two months with co-hosts Marisa Magnatta and Sarah Maiellano (a frequent contributor to Eater Philly). The podcast’s inaugural episode launched last week and is available to stream on most platforms.
