Some North Texas restaurants still struggle to hire workers – CBS Dallas / Fort Worth


DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – As the state begins to open up, some restaurants in North Texas are still struggling to hire workers.

The process of finding employees in the food industry is not going as well, especially not for Lonestar Café 66 in Rockwall.

Lack of staff forced them to close last weekend. They say their biggest obstacle is finding cooks and waiters to help them. The management team say they offer a competitive salary, but some workers may not want to return to the kitchen because they are happy with their unemployment benefit.

Joe Groves, CEO of Ellen’s in Dallas, said that in May they ran into some hiring issues – he thinks it’s because other food companies have improved their benefits and incentives. Now he notices that people are applying to work for his company.

“It’s summer. People are out of school, people are looking for opportunities – some people rely on the government and send it, and these are gone, that could be part of it too.”
