New Chipotle menu item: Pollo Asado is “a fresh new flavor of chicken” added to the menu for a limited time


Chipotle has announced a new menu item they call “a fresh new flavor of chicken.”

Pollo Asado is now on the menu of popular food chains and is available in restaurants in the United States and Canada for a limited time, according to a statement from Chipotle. Chicken is only available at participating locations and through the Chipotle app, Chipotle website, and third-party delivery partners.

The chicken is grilled fresh and prepared daily in small batches. The chicken is then sprinkled with a mixture of spices before being grilled. The Pollo Asado is then chopped by hand into “tender, juicy bite-size pieces and comes to life with a brilliant marinade, freshly squeezed lime and cilantro,” Chipotle said in the release.

“Chicken is by far our most popular protein, and many of our most loyal Chipotle customers order it most of the time,” said Chris Brandt, Chief Marketing Officer. “We’re thrilled to introduce fans to another chicken flavor that brings a whole new dimension to any Chipotle order and is sure to be a crowd pleaser.”

Nick O’Malley, who writes MassLive’s “I Ate It” column, got to try the new menu for himself, saying the chicken is “cilantro-flavored,” with the refreshing new flavors.

“You can smell the herbaceousness when you walk into it,” he said. “It’s also quite zesty, with the lime juice adding a nice tartness.”

O’Malley said chicken can sometimes be a filler for burritos and burrito bowls, but it quickly proved wrong with Pollo Asado.

“Instead of being a protein added to it, it goes really well with any other flavor, especially guacamole or pico de gallo,” he said. “If you work with pico, guac or a good amount of vegetables, it’s a very good choice. It complements those flavors really well and gives you a big delicious pop of all those tastes when it all comes together.

To celebrate the launch of the new chicken, Chipotle is offering customers a $0 delivery charge on all Pollo Asado orders placed through the Chipotle app and Chipotles website in the United States from March 14-20, the statement said.

The order must include at least one entree with Pollo Asado to qualify, according to the release. A minimum of $10 must be spent to order with a maximum order of $200 spent, each excluding taxes and fees.
