Kids First: Family, Food and Fitness

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — If kids are hungry, they can’t focus on their studies.

March is National Nutrition Month! ABC30 will air its new program Children First, Family, Food & Fitness on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. Action News anchors Graciela Moreno and Jason Oliveira will host the special focused on local programs connecting families to nutritious and fitness-promoting foods.

Viewers can also stream live on ABC30’s connected TV apps on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Android TV.

According to Feeding America, the number of children facing hunger in the United States has increased during the pandemic from ten million in 2019 to nearly 12 million children in 2020.

Stories include:

  • An overview of food deserts and programs in Tulare County connecting rural children and families to produce.
  • Doctors are talking about childhood obesity and dispelling myths about what’s really in the foods you think are healthy.
  • Chef Shayna shares tips on how to get kids to eat fruits and veggies.
  • Fresno Metro Ministry teaches parents and children how to switch up family meals with healthier ingredients.
  • How a Tulare County PE teacher gets kids moving, on and off campus.
  • Parents accept offers of free Zumba classes in Fresno.
  • ABC30 has a long history of covering important challenges and opportunities among young people in Central California. Children First is a year-round effort of KFSN. The award-winning program shows how the average person can make a difference in a child’s life and shines a spotlight on local organizations working with children. The Putting Kids First campaign includes half-hour programs like “Family, Food and Fitness”, public service announcements and special stories aired on Action News.
